Wit and Wisdom
Wit and Wisdom is is a fortnightly amusing publication much appreciated and passed on.
Moreton-in-Marsh based Cotswold Cycles-TREK race team (www.cotswoldcyclesrt.co.uk) have secured a three-year sponsorship deal with local business, Cutts of Campden Ford.
The family run business has been trading in Chipping Campden since 1921, and is major sponsor of the annual, fourteen day Chipping Campden International Music Festival. The community minded company also supports Ebrington’s Reach for the Skies cycling event.
Nicholas Cutts (Proprietor) said: “I’m very impressed with what the team have accomplished in just a few years. Their ethos is to support each other and encourage cycling in the local community at all levels, which fits with our community values.”
In 2016, their second year, Cotswold Cycles-TREK achieved 29 top ten finishes and 13 podiums across four disciplines; cross-country, marathon, road and triathlon. They also secured the Veteran National Marathon Championship title.
This year, the team have expanded to include two junior riders, elite female mountain biker Rosie Brown, and National Hunt jockey Graham Watters who’s success on two wheels seems set to rival his equine accomplishments.
Team manager, Don White commented: “We have a long term vision to help our riders progress in their sport no matter what level they are starting from. To be able to grow and develop the team with the support of partners who want to be a part of that vision is very exciting.”
“Our goal for next year is to develop a women’s team, and Cutts’ support will help us achieve that.”
Cotswold Cycles-TREK’s annual 60 mile road race, held as part of the Steele Davis Cotswold League, will take place on Sunday 18th June.

Monday evenings see the Cutts staff, customers and guests play ‘5 a side’ football at Campden Sports Centre.
Lately, the game has been modified to ‘4 a side’, due to pitch size and the desire to play a fast paced, passing game. Shooting only from within the D, with no goalie; the last defender able to handle the ball.
Recently the team entered a prestigious competition for '6 a side' teams at the David Beckham Academy, next door to the 02 Arena in the London Docklands area.
‘This was a terrific night out for our team and supporters’, said Nicholas Cutts, front row, right in photo. ‘We were rubbing shoulders with Teddy Sherringham and Ray Parlour and although we didn’t progress to the final, played our hearts out’.
The competition was won by Ray Parlour’s team with a last minute penalty.
